Hi this is James Hawkins and welcome to Black Sheep. This podcast is about exploring the similarities and differences in Black student’s experiences both in school and beyond that in life. In this episode, I’ll be speaking to my good friend, and co-president of the club I run named SOC+A, Nia Walker. During the conversation we touch on what her journey becoming a Black woman has been like, how her time at Harley has been, what her experience was like going to her previous school, her family life, as well as what she’s hoping for in the future. I personally found this conversation to be very relatable as I’ve dealt with similar situations to her albeit different in some ways. I hope you enjoy the conversation.

Hi this is James Hawkins and welcome to Black Sheep. This podcast is about exploring the similarities and differences in Black student’s experiences both in school and beyond that in life. As well as exploring the differences between experiences of Black students and experiences of students from other races and ethnic backgrounds. That’s normally what I’d be saying at least, but this episode is a special episode. I’m joined by one of my classmates Anna Thomas and we’ll be going over the stages of racial identity development. This discussion was really interesting to me because I came to understand after reading that I myself have jumped around from stage to stage at times. I’d also like to address that I have been on a pause from releasing some of the conversations that I’ve had with others. For that I’d like to apologize, I have been interviewing others in the interim but because of things that have occurred in my personal life it’s made it hard for me to find time in order to edit and upload episodes. I’m sorry, and I promise from now on I’ll do better. That said however, I hope that you enjoy the conversation that Anna and I had.
